World Languages

The World Language Department attempts to relate human knowledge to the News of Salvation, by promoting the linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in an atmosphere of faith, understanding and acceptance. World Language instruction fosters the cultural awareness of other peoples, with special emphasis placed on the lifestyles of the young. A satisfying awareness of intellectual achievement comes with learning to speak and understand another language and strengthens the self-image of the student. Social growth develops from communication and shared activities.

All students are strongly encouraged to take at least two (2) years of a World Language. Seniors selecting a first-year level language MUST be already taking a foreign language AND/OR obtain the approval of both the Department Chair and the Office of Academic Affairs. Admission into a second or higher level of a language requires the satisfactory completion at the first or lower level, respectively, and the recommendation of the prior teacher.
